What It Is

More than a run club, 100km Club a simple system for building movement, motivation and readiness to learn across your whole school.

100km Club is a whole-school participation system that builds active, engaged, ready-to-learn students through simple, consistent movement.

Students work towards 100km over time through walking, running or other “huff and puff” activity (e.g., skipping, swimming, scooting, cycling) building habits, confidence and a sense of achievement at their own pace.

It’s not about speed or performance.
It’s about participation, progress and persistence.

Every lap counts. Every student can experience success.

Built on 3 Simple Systems

🟢 Participation System

Students build their own 100km journey over time.

Schools choose how it works:

  • before school, during breaks, PE or after school

  • whole school, class or year level/s

  • simple tracking methods that suit your context

No complex systems. No barriers. Just students moving.

🟣 Recognition System

Progress is visible and celebrated.

  • Individual milestones (e.g. 25km, 50km, 75km, 100km)

  • Everyday progress recognition (5km certificates and stickers)

  • Group participation (class, year level, house) rewards - shout outs on parade, free physical activity time, group trophy etc.)

This builds motivation, persistence and pride.

🔵 Identity System

Participation becomes part of school culture.

  • shared routines, experiences and history (previous year stats etc.)

  • visible celebration (assemblies, newsletters, displays)

  • optional shirts, events and participation goals

Students don’t just take part - they feel part of something.

Why Schools Use It

Schools use 100km Club because it supports more than physical activity.

It provides a simple, consistent way to build student health, wellbeing, engagement and readiness to learn - while strengthening connection across the school community. It aligns with school improvement around creating a culture that promotes learning, parent and community engagement etc.

Engagement (students want to be there)

100km Club supports multiple forms of engagement:

  • Emotional engagement - students feel a sense of belonging and connection to the club, their peers and their school

  • Behavioural engagement - students actively participate, show up consistently and develop positive routines

  • Cognitive engagement - students are more settled, focused and ready to engage in learning after being active

Readiness to Learn

Regular movement before or during the school day helps students arrive calmer, more regulated and ready to focus, supporting a positive start to learning.

Health & Wellbeing

Students accumulate meaningful moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA), helping meet daily movement recommendations while building fitness, confidence and lifelong habits.

Behaviour & Positive Routines

Provides a structured, purposeful start to the day that supports self-regulation, reduces passive waiting time, and establishes positive habits.

School Culture & Connection

Builds a visible culture of participation, where students, staff and families feel connected through shared activity, goals and celebration.

100km Club creates meaningful opportunities for success for all students - including those who may not always experience it in traditional academic settings - through visible progress, personal goals, and consistent achievement over time.

Evidence Snapshot

✔ 12+ years of school-based development
✔ Implemented across multiple Queensland schools
✔ Education and community award recognition
✔ Supported by evaluation input from The University of Queensland

At Caloundra SS

This is a school-tested system, not a pilot.
